Investments can be a minefield for many clients. The most common question put to me is, “My investment with the bank is not giving me a very good return, can you do any better?”

 

The answer to this is maybe, however, make no mistake, I do not have a Magic Answer. I have a potential solution, but the day you move from bank deposits and cash ISA’s there will be an element of risk.

 

The first time I see a client in circumstances like this I ask “Are you prepared to take an element of risk?”, if not stay with what you have.

 

If you are, then risk comes in very different stages from Very Low to adventurous. My job is then to establish where a client is on the risk scale and find the best option to suit this “Risk Attitude”

 

The second very important fact is to find an investment that keeps any tax liability to a minimum. Stocks and Shares ISA’s are an excellent way to avoid tax, however many clients get scared off by just the name. Stocks and Shares ISA’s come in the same risk factors as any other investment; Very low to Very High it’s just finding the one to suit you.
